New Study Finds Cholesterol Drug Crestor Up to Eight Times More Risky

A new study from Tufts-New England Medical Center shows there is a higher risk of side effects from Crestor than earlier cholesterol drugs. This latest research seems to challenge the Food and Drug Administration decision to keep Crestor on the market. The new research says that, based on side effects reported to the Food and Drug Administration, kidney problems and severe muscle weakness were two to eight times more frequent among Crestor users than among those using other cholesterol-lowering drugs. In March, the FDA said Crestor's risks were no greater than those of its competitors. Tufts-New England Medical Center disagrees with the findings of the FDA.
