Essential Mineral Found to Lower C-reactive Protein Levels
New study finds that dietary magnesium has a positive impact on C-reactive protein. C-reactive protein (CRP) has been discovered to be an important marker in cardiovascular disease. Current dietary guidelines recommend that individuals take 310 to 420 mgs of magnesium per day in order to maintain health and lower risk of heart disease. The study concluded that adults who were over age 40 with a BMI >25 and who consumed less than 50% of RDA for magnesium were 2.24 times more likely to have elevated CRP and increase their risk of heart disease Reference King DE, Mainous AG 3rd, Geesey ME, Woolson RF.
