New Study Finds 'Good Fat' May Prevent Osteoporosis
New study has found that conjugated linoleic acid (CLA) is associated with improved bone mineral density score in postmenopausal women. The study consisted of 136 caucasian, healthy, postmenopausal women. The average age was 69 years old. Calcium, protein, fat, energy output, CLA and other nutrient factors were measured. The women were divided into two groups. While CLA was increased in group 2, all other facts remained the same. It was concluded that the Group 2's BMD was higher in the hip, lumbar spine and forearm. The study has yielded some favorable insight into the benefits of CLA and prevention of osteoporosis in postmenopausal Reference Brownbill RA, Petrosian M, Ilich JZ.
