Attention Women: Are You Causing Arthritis of Your Knees?
Ronald Grisanti D.C., D.A.B.C.O., M.S.
New study finds women's dress shoes with heels of just 1.5 inches in height increases knee joint torque increasing the potential of developing knee osteoarthritis.
The study warns that women who think walking in trendy high-heeled shoes will not harm them, need to think twice. According to Professor Casey Kerrigan, associate professor and director of research at the department of physical medicine, Harvard Medical School, walking in high heels increases the pressure put on the knee by the thighbone. This pressure over a long period of time will eventually damage the cartilage. Women, particularly those who already have knee arthritis, should be advised against wearing these types of shoes, the study suggest.
