Blood Clot Risk Linked To Blood Type? Are You At Risk?

A new study from Leiden University Medical Center in The Netherlands shows that people with blood type A, B or AB had an increased risk of deep vein thrombosis (DVT). What is a DVT?
Deep venous thrombosis is a condition where there is a blood clot in a deep vein. Deep venous thrombosis (DVT) affects mainly the veins in the lower leg and the thigh. It involves the formation of a clot (thrombus) in the larger veins of the area. The thrombus may then break off and travel through the blood stream lodging itself in the brain, lungs, heart, or other areas leading to a potential stroke or heart attack. According to Dr Vania Morelli, from the Leiden University Medical Center in the Netherlands, he states that information on blood type may have a role in the management of DVT.
