ABOUT DR. GRISANTI

Hello, my name is Dr. Ron Grisanti. I would like to introduce myself. I have been in private practice since 1983. Before beginning my chiropractic career in Greenville, I lived in New York and completed my under-graduate studies in pre-med.

My decision to attend chiropractic school was prompted by my dad's success with chiropractic care in the late 1960's and 1970's. As a retired police officer he suffered with severe back pain resulting from a herniated disc. His persistent pain was helped with chiropractic treatment. Although he finally had to have back surgery, it was his chiropractor that made the referral and suggested he did everything he could to give my father relief. His honesty and integrity impressed me enough to research a possible career in chiropractic.

The training was long and mentally draining. All I remember were late nights of intensive studying.. everything from organic chemistry to anatomy and physiology. Chiropractic school requires a four year training program of thousands and thousands hours after obtaining the necessary undergraduate pre-med training.

I completed my chiropractic training in 1981 and decided to get my first license in Pennsylvania. Shortly after obtaining my Pennsylvania license, I was hired by the Mt. Hope Chiropractic as an intern physician. My primary responsibility was clinical examinations performed six days a week. After a little less than one year I decided to return to South Carolina and get my state license. To be real honest, I really returned to propose to my girlfriend and present wife Debbie. After she accepted my proposal I decided to make South Carolina our permanent home.

In 1982, I successfully passed all the requirements to obtain my state license. Out of 66 applicants only 12 applicants passed. I was so thankful I succeeded on my first attempt. I really believe God had his hand on our lives and still does. Immediately after obtaining my new South Carolina license, I was offered the opportunity to become clinic director for a prestigious clinic in Anderson County.

After one year I had a deep desire to start my own practice. My only obstacle was I had no money and no collateral. Every bank and lending institute in Greenville refused to give me a chance. Debbie and I were so discouraged. We shed a lot of tears in those days. Our faith in God and belief in my professional skills encouraged us to move forward and keep searching for funding. To our delight, a good friend and successful chiropractor in Atlanta decided to help us obtain the necessary money to start my own practice.

January 1983 was the beginning of our new professional journey. Operating a new business required long hours and a tremendous amount of faith in God. As my practice grew, I decided to return for continued training in Orthopedics.

Chiropractic orthopedics is a 3 1/2 year post-doctorate 360 hours of intensive studies. Out of 60,000 chiropractors in the U.S. less than 1% of the chiropractors hold the title of Board Certified Chiropractic Orthopedist. I must admit the happiest day in my professional career was receiving my certification in orthopedics.

As I continued in my professional career, I continued going back to school for additional training in Sports Medicine and Internal Diagnosis.

Each post-graduate program was a minimum of 2 years. My sports training involved studies in the diagnosis and treatment of many athletic injuries.. everything from tennis elbow, rotator cuff injuries, knee problems, sprained ankles.. to name a few.

Training in internal disorders was another post-doctorate program involving the diagnosis and conservative treatment of common diseases such as digestive disorders, asthma, heart disease, auto-immune disease, arthritis and many more common and “uncommon” health conditions.

I continued in my pursuit for clinical knowledge until my world came collapsing down in 1997.

It was a hot summer day and I was attending a medical conference in South Carolina learning something that would help my patients improve their health. I remember listening to the professor, when all of a sudden the room began to spin and went completely white. I didn’t know what in the world was happening to me.

I recall slowly making my way to the bathroom and splashing water on my face.. I was hyperventilating and was sweating profusely. I decided to inch my way to my car and leave the seminar.. I sat in my vehicle for what seemed like an eternity and eventually drove myself home. I kept asking myself “what happened?”

Over the next few days, I began to feel better but just when I thought it was over.. it happened again. This time it was ten times worse. I had my wife rush me to a friend of mine’s office ( an internal medicine specialist). After what seemed like an eternity, he finally came in and examined me. He commented that he could find nothing wrong with me and that I simply needed to “slow down”.

As the weeks progressed, I continued to spiral down into a state of mental despair. My symptoms consisted of severe dizziness, palpitations, mental fog, aches and pains, severe insomnia, tunnel vision, gastrointestinal problems. I felt like I was going crazy.. Everything around did not appear real.. I couldn’t think. I felt like I was losing my mind. I wanted to climb the walls and jump out of my skin...anything to escape this nightmare of a condition.

As the weeks turned into months, I desperately searched for answers. I consulted with neurologists, psychiatrists, medical physicians, and counselors. I had every test under the sun including three MRIs of my brain, CT scans, blood test. I was probed and poked and to my deepest frustration was told that they had no idea why I was suffering with all these symptoms.

The lowest point of my life came approximately one year later. After losing my home, vehicle, saving and all my self-esteem, I admitted myself in a hospital for people with nervous breakdowns and mental health problems.. The best that medicine could offer me what that I was suffering with anxiety, panic attacks and depression. Six days in the hospital and $25,000 dollar later, I was released with three prescriptions.

This went on for another year. I continued hoping and praying for an answer to my health challenges.. I cried almost every day. I felt like a failure. I could not provide for my family. I lost everything except my family and the few people who I call friends. Visit after visit to different medical specialists offered nothing in the way of a solution. I was told that drugs were my only answer and that I needed to accept the fact that I may have to live like this for my entire life.

Finally one day, I met someone who told me about a doctor who might be able to help me. I already had my hopes shattered more than once. I had tried acupuncture, homeopathy, herbs, chiropractic, hypnosis, meditation, massage, applied kinesiology. All to no avail. I really was not overly excited about trying something new. I figured I had already tried the best that traditional and alternative medicine had to offer.

And was I in for a surprise.

My life was about to make a turn for the better. Never in my mind did I ever think that my life would improve so much.. But it did.

I was introduced to the field of functional diagnostic medicine. To be quite honest, I really thought I had exhausted “all” that medicine had to offer. But I was wrong.

I first saw this special medical physician in April of 1999. He required me to complete a comprehensive medical questionnaire and performed the most thorough physical examination I had ever had. Based on the information he obtained from my history and examination, he decided to order a stool test, chemical toxicity test and an adrenal stress profile. What he found was to be the turning point of my life.

He discovered “off-chart” high levels of chemical toxins with a condition called dysbiosis leading to stage three adrenal exhaustion. Based on these findings, I was started on a personalized treatment program and to my excitement, slowly began to get better.

The road was slow.. but little by little I saw my health return. I made a personal “pact” with myself. I decided that when I was ready, that I wanted to learn everything and anything about this wonderful field of medicine. And indeed I did and I continue to learn.

In the year 2000, I decided to pursue certification in the field of Functional Diagnostic and Environmental Medicine. The study of this unique type of medicine has opened the door to a new and rewarding career. Unlike the field of chiropractic medicine which focuses on the diagnosis and treatment of common joint and muscle problems, physicians specializing in the field Functional and Environmental Medicine are trained to utilize and most importantly interpret the most advanced medical technological testing procedures. Instead of the "cookbook" approach to disease.. that is "name that disease and give a drug", a growing number of discerning physicians are realizing the tremendous limitation to that approach.

With the increasing number of people dying from heart disease, cancer and degenerative diseases, physicians have become frustrated with the traditional medical approach and are discovering the tremendous benefit of incorporating a functional medical approach to their practice. Physicians are seeing significant medical improvements in patients that had been told "nothing else can be done... you simply have to learn to live with your condition."

In April of 2001, I had the honor to be invited along with 19 other medical physicians to attend a weeklong medical conference in San Diego. The conference presented the newest scientific medical procedures in the field of Functional Diagnostic Medicine. My training in the field of Functional Diagnostic Medicine has brought me back to San Diego and Atlanta for advance diagnosis and treatment of common degenerative diseases such as lupus, RA, cardiovascular disease, digestive problems, female hormonal problems, etc..

In September of 2001, I began my Master's degree in Nutritional Medicine from the University of Bridgeport and graduated in the spring of 2004.

Since November of 2001 I have attended medical conferences on chronic fatigue syndrome, auto-immune diseases, genome (genetics and environment), allergies, female hormonal disorder, advanced detoxification diagnosis and much more.

At this time, I am researching and writing medical articles on various health conditions. I also have five books I am researching and getting ready to write.

I believe that things happen for a reason. My walk in the valley did not happen by accident. I have learned a lot about human suffering and have gained a whole new perspective on life.

I am more committed in my pursuit for truth and clinical excellence than ever before. My dedication to my patients and members of YourMedicalDetective.com is without a doubt one of the most important things in my life.

I will continue to do everything I can to help the multiple of people hoping and praying for an answer to their health challenges.

I can say with 100% certainty that I know how you feel.. I have walked in your shoes..

Respectfully,

Ronald J. Grisanti D.C.,D.A.B.C.O.,M.S.
