New medical study published in the journal, Diabetes Care, has discovered that three out of every five patients with type 2 diabetes show signs of vitamin D deficiency.
Dr. Targher, at Sacro Cuore Hospital, Negrar, and his colleagues studied blood levels of vitamin D in 459 individuals with type 2 diabetes and a comparison group of 459 matched non-diabetic "controls."

-- Dr. Targher, at Sacro Cuore Hospital
The rate of vitamin D deficiency (61 percent) was significantly higher in the diabetics than in the controls (43 percent).
Dr. Targher concluded that vitamin D deficiency is highly prevalent in people with type 2 diabetes."

Dr. Grisanti's Comments:
A blood test called 25(OH)D test is regarded as the single best assessment of vitamin D nutritional status. Too little vitamin D contributes to many degenerative diseases including the risk of diabetes. Ask your doctor to order the 25(OH)D test as part of your routine blood test.
